Challenge Program INFO - Seniors - Time Sensitive

Any senior who wants to be considered for the Challenge Program Volunteer Service drawing for $200 needs to send an email to Mrs. Bowers by Tuesday morning, May 5th at 10:00.  The email needs to list the volunteer date(s), location, and hours.

PA Army National Guard

I am sharing this from our PA Army National Guard Recruiter,

Staff Sergeant Chad Gageby. His contact information is below.

~Mrs. Bowers

I hope you and your family are all well during this time! I wanted to let you know that while traditional school is no longer is session, the Pennsylvania Army National Guard is still prepared to work with our Juniors and Seniors to assist them in solidifying their future plans and help them to reach their goals.

Since I cannot meet with any of your students in school, I am personally reaching out to you to see if you are aware of any students who, before the pandemic closed the schools, may have been interested or could benefit from what the National Guard has to offer? Such as paid job training, part time local employment, signing bonuses of up to $20,000 for select jobs or fantastic education benefits to assist in their college planning?

Army National Guard Career Counselors are still working (although in a non-traditional sense) to interview potential Applicants and to process them for enlistment if they qualify. Of course, we are following all federal and state guidelines and practicing social-distancing for protection of ourselves and our Applicants. Personally, I am working from home, but when I have someone interested in serving I will still interview them in their home, my office or even over FaceTime or Skype; whichever makes the most and safest sense for the individual and their family.

Right now, the Army National Guard is supporting the mission of COVID-19, and we are proud to say that we do support our local communities, the State of PA and ultimately the Nation in this fight! We are mission ready and always looking to add to our ranks. For more information, please feel free to visit our website:

Please feel free to share my contact information with your students and their families.

I hope you continue to stay safe and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
SSG Chad Gageby

College Board SAT Testing Update

If you were planning to take future SATs or took the March administration please read all of the information below.

~Mrs. Bowers

March and May SAT Administrations

In response to the rapidly evolving situation around the coronavirus (COVID-19), College Board is canceling the May 2, 2020 SAT and SAT Subject Test administration. Makeup exams for the March 14 administration (scheduled for March 28) are also canceled.

Students who already registered for May, whose March test centers were closed, or who do not receive March scores because of any irregularities will receive refunds.

In the coming days, College Board will share additional information and details directly with registered students and test centers.

Future Testing Opportunities

College Board will provide future additional SAT testing opportunities for students as soon as possible in place of canceled administrations. We’ll be as flexible as possible to give students the best chance to show their skills and stay on the path to college.

We have not yet canceled the June 6, 2020 SAT and SAT Subject Test administration and will continue to assess its status, with the health and safety of students and educators as our top priority. We are also exploring the possibility of adding an international SAT administration later this school year.

The March 25 SAT School Day administration is postponed. College Board is working with local partners, and we’ll soon share further information about weekday school-based SAT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9 administrations scheduled for this spring.

Resources and Support

To help students keep their college readiness skills sharp when many schools are closed, College Board and Khan Academy will continue to provide free resources online, including full-length practice tests and personalized learning tools.

Together with our member schools and colleges, we will be flexible, thoughtful, and collaborative in exploring ways to continue to support student learning and provide opportunities to test during this challenging time.

Our focus will remain on student safety and during this challenging time, we’re ensuring students have the tools they need and opportunities to receive the credit they’ve earned.

Please check this page regularly for updates.

If you have questions or concerns about your scheduled testing with College Board programs, please contact us as soon as possible. Given the high volume of inquiries, wait times may be longer than normal.

From Mrs. Bowers

~ North Star High School WAS approved to provide testing in JUNE providing it does not get cancelled.

ACT Testing Update

This is taken directly from the ACT website:

The safety of students and test center staff is ACT’s top priority. ACT has rescheduled its April 4 national test date to June 13 across the U.S. in response to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). All students registered for the April 4 test date will receive an email from ACT in the next few days informing them of the postponement and instructions for free rescheduling to June 13 or a future national test date. Learn more.
